Oyo State and World Bank Partner to Renovate 58 Public Schools

The Oyo State Government, in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a World Bank-assisted program, has disbursed grants for the renovation of 58 public schools in the state. This initiative aims to provide a conducive learning environment, increase enrollment, and reduce the number of out-of-school children.

According to the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Salihu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, the selected schools will receive a facelift through rehabilitation, including the renovation of classrooms, provision of potable water, furniture, toilet facilities, and solar systems.

The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, emphasized the importance of education as a priority area for the present administration. He noted that the project is significant to the state government's agenda of developing a roadmap for the educational sector.

The Special Adviser on Education Intervention, Oloye Tiamiyu Suraju Abiodun, stated that the grant aims to transform the infrastructure of schools in the state, enhance education capacity, and involve School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) in the process.

The selection of beneficiary schools was objective and devoid of bias or political interference. The project's success will determine the next phase, which is part of the GPE's support to three focus states - Oyo, Adamawa, and Kastina - to address issues of access and learning outcomes.

Stakeholders, including SBMC Chairmen and Head Teachers, have pledged to ensure quality and transparent execution of the project. The renovation of these schools will create a conducive learning environment, increase enrollment, and reduce the menace of out-of-school children.
