Ramaphosa, Tinubu Meet in Johannesburg, Emphasize Need for Stronger Partnership

Johannesburg, South Africa - President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa held a private meeting on Thursday, underscoring the importance of stronger partnership between their nations. The meeting took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Johannesburg, following President Ramaphosa's inauguration for a second term in office.

President Ramaphosa expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for attending his inauguration, describing him as "my brother". President Tinubu praised President Ramaphosa's inaugural speech, highlighting the shared challenges faced by African countries and the need for increased collaboration.

The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and address common issues, building on the foundation laid during President Ramaphosa's visit to Nigeria in December 2023. The leaders' discussion focused on enhancing economic cooperation, trade, and security between South Africa and Nigeria.

President Ramaphosa's re-election on June 14, 2024, marked a significant milestone, following an agreement for a Government of National Unity between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance.

This meeting between the two leaders signals a commitment to deepening relations and driving progress in the region.
