The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has rejected a proposed minimum wage of N100,000, deeming it unaffordable and unsustainable for states. Instead, they are considering options between N60,000 and N70,000, with Edo State already paying the latter. A committee headed by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will review the options and make recommendations.
According to sources, some states still struggle to pay the current minimum wage of N30,000, with a few paying only N18,000. The governors' stance aligns with previous statements emphasizing the need for an "affordable and sustainable" minimum wage.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has denied reports that the Minister of Finance proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000 to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the claims as false.
