Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, from office pending investigations into allegations of gross misconduct.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, the suspension is in line with Governor Otti's zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
The Abia State Government is investigating the allegations against Dr. Okoronkwo, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeyinwa Kalu, will work with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Azodo, to manage the ministry's affairs in the interim.
Kanu said government is taking a painstaking approach to establish the facts of the alleged misconduct, and Dr. Okoronkwo will be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
According to him, the development demonstrates Governor Otti's commitment to good governance and the rule of law in Abia State.
