In a strategic move to enhance security in the South East, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to establish an operational base in Abia State.

Governor Dr. Alex Otti has welcomed the decision, promising full support for the project.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, visited Governor Otti in Umuehim, Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, to finalize arrangements for the base. The Governor offered a temporary site in Umuahia and pledged to provide land, residences, vehicles, and other necessary support for the Air Force personnel.
The establishment of the Air Force base comes at a crucial time, following a recent attack on an army post in Obikabia, Obingwa Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of five soldiers. Governor Otti has condemned the incident and announced a 30 million Naira bounty for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
The Nigerian Air Force base in Abia is expected to bolster security in the state and the entire South East zone. The partnership between the state government and the Air Force aims to ensure the protection of lives and properties, and to prevent future security breaches.
